hamburgers and height

SIMPLY HAMBURGER

Yeah. That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a hamburger. Ill admit, I may have gotten lazy over the last few months, and yes, this was really the only thing I could come up with for the entry I was supposed to write for today. And for future reference, yes, I may be on the verge of starvation. But I will tell you that there is something very special about this very hamburger, which you may decipher by reading on.

Its not the first time I draw a hamburger, im afraid. It has happened before. I have absolutely no idea why I would do such a thing, as draw hamburgers. I mean, this one doesnt even have any fucking filling, what the hell is wrong with me? :c Its a hard life, living on your own, making your own food, washing your own clothes, etc.. Then again, If I did not dread the taste of hamburger by now, I could eat them every single day of my life, if I chose to do so.

Do you know why women in history have found taller men more attractive? No? Well, there are a few theories. One I find particularly interesting, because it sort of serves as a paralell to how a modern woman can sometimes be depicted in the media. A golddigger, that is. No, not a mine worker, the ones that marry richer men. Height correlates to wealth, health, and living conditions. This is why women prefer marrying taller men, because it might mean they will marry into a life of wealth, health, and good living conditions. Marriage with a short man might be considered a bad idea because in the past, shortness has been a sign of maltnutrition.

What im saying is; In the past a tall man was instantly considered above a shorter man, if you excuse my terrible pun, because it may have meant he lived under better conditions. This sticking with society since then, could partly explain why tall height is considered a virtue in modern society too. Now, im not calling every woman out there a golddigger, but these are evalutations and associations that you make up subconciously, and you might not even notice it, but you will like tall men better than short men.

In the modern world though, its very diminishing. We dont think like this anymore. Everyone sleeps well enough, and no one is starving. Living conditions, in the modern countries, are very high. This mating phenomenon is not as strong today as it has been in the past.

Other theories are, for example, how the tall man was better equipped to protect and feed his woman, and that stems back to nomadic times, where everyone was a hunter, and tall men were naturally better predators. Right now, I would ask you to scroll back up and look at my hamburger. I dearly hope my experiment has worked. Pretty neat, if so. If nothing has happened, check back when youve read the rest of the text. Anyway, all these theories are of course backseat to the general preference of particular women. Some women like short men, and would marry them regardless of wealth. Some women might hate short men for completely different reasons. Some women may be completely indifferent regarding height.

Anyhow, women dont directly think like these theories claim anymore, but its still might be a part of why you find tall men more attractive. Think about that, next time youre oogling that handsome tall dude. You might like him only because you see an illusion which makes you think hes wealthier than the short men.

Quite an interesting read, I think. Might just be me, though. As a disclaimer for any women who feel offended, this is only a theory. You dont actually work like this, this is simply what someone has thought you think like. Some of you might think what ive been saying is complete bullshit, and im okay with that, youre not forced to believe anything I say. But I will reference a scientific study, which confirms a lot of what ive been saying.

For the record, im a pretty short guy.

EDIT: reading through, it sort of seems like i meant that they still prefer marrying taller men because they might be richer than short men, but what i meant is that they used to do that in history, and it has sort of left a mark on womens preferences today.

some one hundred years ago

... I drew these. In a sense, theyre like my baby drawings, except its just the first ones I drew using a digital tablet. Looking back, im filled with nostalgia, but at the same time I almost feel ashamed to upload them here. But thats ok, no one ever reads my blog anyway, so thats fine. Prepare for the mother of all entries, because its a long one.

But yeah, I actually was this bad at drawing once. It boggles my mind to see how far ive come since. It also fills me with a certain kind of sadness, the sadness of not knowing whether ive yet reached the roof of my potential or if ill keep getting better. Sure, one can always improve, but its going to take a shitload of work. Its almost like some kind of misguided craftmans masterpiece-complex. If a man knows he will never create a piece better than the last one he made, then what motivation does he have in even trying to get better?

Okay, I might have written that just to get to explain that complex, I dont actually feel this way, that would be quite absurd. I am actually adamant regarding my future progress. ANYHOW heres is some 2008 galore

Yeah, thats supposed to look like James Bond. Yeah, I drew this. 12.10.2008. On my old A4 Aiptek Media Tablet (RIP). I was really damn proud of it at the time, im not even sure I realized he was missing an eye, but then a couple days later, I kinda realized it looked like complete shit, and I quit drawing for about a month. Yeah, thats how fragile my ego is.

Mhm, thats kind of an eye. It actually had a "yeah" in the file name, and would have had an exclamation mark if it were possible, because I was that proud of myself. I remember I actually drew this while watching a traditional graphite art tutorial on how to draw an eye, and copied it as closely as was possible. I still remember how frustrated I was about the dude in the video jabbering on about some 3B pencils because it didnt help me at all since I drew on the PC. Im not sure even whether I actually knew what difference there was between a 3B and a 2H was at the time. Now, though, Ive come to realize it doesnt really matter what pen you use, its what you can make of it that matters. I erroneously thought they would make me better at drawing, so strong was the naiveté in me. Also from late 2008.

Sometime back then I also drew 2 portraits of master chief. Ive never played the Halo games, I actually kinda hate them, but I thought master chief was pretty rad anyway. Both portraits turned out to be crap. But I quite liked this one when I drew it, so I guess it belongs here. Makes me wonder though, in 5 years, will I look back at the stuff I draw today and think "My god, what a loser I was!"?

I found these about a year back when I was looking through the folders of a disused PC, and I laughed the shit out of myself. These are actually part of a series of about 5 pictures, all depicting sad babies with dogs faces. I used them as profile avatars on forums and stuff, and by golly I had the greatest laughs for it. I think my proudest moment ever was when I was told by a fellow forumgoer that my avatars made him both "lol uncontrollably and spew vomit like nobodys business, all at the same time.". Imagine that. Fk, those were the days. Early 2008. I already had a pretty solid grasp of GIMP and a couple other photo editing software back then.

Yes, there is lots more, but these are the only one I dared bare to your unwitting eyes, the other ones may have been potentially hazardous as viewing material.

I was actually going to write about a self portrait I created about a year back, but I couldnt find it on my PC, so I might have to postpone that until a later time.

By the way, heres a fun little fact I came to think of while I was in the shower the other day: You actually move faster if the moon is not visible.

Yes, I can explain this. Because both the moon and the earth have gravitational pull, that means that not only is the moon revolving around Earth, but Earth is also, in a way, revolving around the moon. Well, in truth, neither revolves around the other. They actually both spin around a so called center of gravity, which exists somewhere between the 2 centers of mass of the moon and of the Earth. Because Earth is so much heavier, it so happens that this center of gravity exists within the surface of the Earth.

Anyway, this means that the earth and moon spin just like in this nifty little GIF that I found on wikipedia.

As you can see, the smaller, outer white circle is moving quite rapidly. This is also true for the part of the big white circle that is the farthest away from the cross in the middle (The cross is, as you should have realized if you are paying attention, the center of gravity.). This quite accurately, albeit not being to scale with, resembles the way the moon and the earth interact.

If we get back to the faster moving part of the big white circle, it also happens to be the side of the earth from which you cannot see the moon. Hence, you move faster in space if youre on the opposite side of the earth from the moon. Fascinating, isnt it?

Science facts. It brings me to think of a youtube channel that has just that, namely vsauce. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/vsauce . He also uploads some of the weirdest shit along with the science videos, but dont be alarmed, its just part of what makes it so cool.

Am I the only one who thinks about this kind of stuff while in the shower?... Also, what a fucking leviathan of entries. I really need to shorten them down in the future, congratulations to whomever read to the end. A thousand and 69 words, to be precise. Excuse the sloppy writing.

art and stuff

Yes, after a month of posting hiatus, I am here again. To say I am back would be a lie, for I cannot be sure that I will keep posting an entry per week as I used to do. But hey, its my free time, to be used at my leisure, come at me bro.

Anyhow, what I have to show you is another timelapse drawing video. Digital, not traditional. I hope to be able to bring you one with real pen and paper soon, though, so stay tuned i guess..?

Used OpenCanvas as usual, and recorded the event history instead of the actual painting process, which means you wont see any mouse pointer, there will be no pauses between strokes as there would be in reality,  and the timescale is kinda funky. Those are the drawbacks of recording event history as opposed to recording the process of you drawing it.

As for the painting itself, I drew it in the middle of the night just a couple days ago. At 3 o clock in the night i was struck by this unholy craving for the pen, and so I drew something as bizarre as this. Its a take on cyberpunk, something I read about just the other day. Ill admit its kinda strange, but I think the strange is also part of the appeal. I kinda love it, I think.

No reference used. I think I should have used one though, for the mechanical parts, as my inspiration felt kind of subpar in the late hour. I was going to colour it at first, but I later changed my mind, because im lazy like that. Reference is always good to have, even if the reference isnt even close to what youre doing. Let me explain, in this piece I could have, for example, googled pictures for "engine". Now, im pretty sure the pictures provided would have offered me some inspiration or just stuff that i could have incorporated into my art. Because I dont know what a mechanical neck looks like, I can google for stuff that might give me an idea or clue as to how it may look, even if I dont actually find a picture of a mechanical neck. By using inspiration from real life pictures, I could have made this piece look a lot more lifelike and believable.

Anyhow, below is a regular png containing the drawing in full resolution.
